Arthropods in Dougfir and Alder Stands
Question: Are populations of arthropods associated with these habitat types: Douglas Fir and Red Alder near Lookout Creek, and Douglas fir upland from the creek. Are they statistically similar, or are they different?
Study design: The two sites were located along Lookout Creek, in the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest. In one site, we sampled for arboreal insects in Douglas fir, and in the other site we sampled for arboreal insects in red alder. We selected 5 trees from each of the sites. At each tree, we selected 5 branches. Each branch was “beaten” 3 times into the beating sheets and all of the arthropods from each branch were collected into a separate vial.
