Welcome to Ecoplexity

Ecological complexity depends upon species diversity and the structure of species interactions. Complex ecosystems are hierarchically controlled, characterized by non-linear feedback loops, and exhibit patterns that can be observed over many different spatial and temporal scales.

How do complex ecosystems function? How can we understand or predict some of the consequences of human caused changes on ecosystems?

This project will train high school science teachers to conduct authentic field research and use qualitative modeling to broaden their understanding of complexity, diversity, and ecology as a science. Through immersion in real-world, authentic research, teachers obtain confidence and motivation to implement inquiry based field ecology projects in their classrooms.
